Traffic Skills 101: a two-day class for ages 14+

Day 1: Classroom Workshop:

This fun and entertaining 3.5 hour workshop is taught by one of our bicycle safety instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists. Learn basic rules of the road, how to share the road with cars on busy streets, equip your bicycle, fit your helmet, use transit, fix a flat, and avoid crashes by riding predictably, visibly, and communicating with motorists by your actions and signals. No bike required.

Day 2: Road Class:

Join us for a half day of bike riding! This is the second part of Traffic Skills 101. We’ll cover on-road, on-your-bike practice sessions, working in small groups with our certified instructors to improve your handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and ability to confidently and safely share the road with other traffic. A functional bike is required, drinks and snacks provided.

Family Cycling Workshops

The family that rides together thrives together!
Safe road bicycling takes a lot more than balance, a helmet and a good attitude. Join the East Bay Bicycle Coalition's League Certified safety instructors for a day of fun games, safety drills, skills building, and a neighborhood ride. This workshop is for kids able to ride a bike and who are ready to ride on the roadways with their parents. Parents and kids must attend together and should bring their own bikes. Each child receives a free red blinky light for participating!

    Lunchtime Commute Workshops

If you are a business or a school and would like the East Bay Bicycle Coalition to provide a Lunchtime Commute Workshop at your site, we are happy to do this, at a reasonable cost (and possibly for free), with one of our certified bicycle safety instructors. Please contact: Bonnie Wehmann, Education Director for more information.

I just wanted to say Thank You for coming to present the Bicycle Safety Class to our employees this past week. I have received so many positive comments about the class. Beginner riders appreciated the information. One person told me he didn’t know he was riding unsafely but now he is glad to know where to be on the road (and off the sidewalk). Even the experienced riders said that they were reminded of important safety tips. This is a great program and you did an awesome job presenting. Testimonials

"My son David really got a lot out of the bicycle safety class -- thanks so much! We live in Fremont, and my son's biking 6 mi. to school (leaving in the dark in the a.m.), so I really wanted him to have the class. He's going to take the road class too coming up on October 31."
      Carolyn Berke, Fremont resident

"I better understand "the rules" and my confidence is increased, which raises the level of both my comfort and safety. I appreciated the mix of lecture, demonstration, diagram explanations, video examples, and resources provided on paper to take with me. It felt empowering and supportive to participate with other bicyclists, enforcing my connection to the whole local biking community."
      Donna Khanvali, Alameda resident

"I feel much more confident and relaxed on the road, now that I know how to position myself and how to communicate with drivers. I've noticed very experienced cyclists doing very risky maneuvers and now I know a bad example when I see it!"
      Ellen Gould, Oakland resident
