18,000 enjoy PedalFest and an amazing day of fun-filled cycling celebration

On Saturday, October 22, EBBC teamed up with Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, Jack London Square, and New Belgium Brewery to bring you the biggest celebration of the bicycle in regional history. Riders from all over the Bay rolled out to the waterfront for a terrific day of pedal-powered music, food, rides and more.
The first annual PedalFest was successful in every sense – over 18,000 people came out for the festival. The 13 entertainers on five stages were all huge hits, from the Rock the Bike soundstage to the daredevils on the Whiskeydrome and BMX stunt jumps. We raised more than $17,000 to benefit bike and pedestrian advocacy in the East Bay. PedalFest was a success in ways that can’t be summed up in numbers, too. Seeing thousands of riders having a great day together down at Jack London, it was clear that the bicyclists of the East Bay are developing into a real community. Thank you all for rolling out, and we’ll look forward to seeing you out at PedalFest 2012!
The East Bay Bicycle Coalition thanks everyone who attended a super-fun and totally incredible bike festival in Oakland. Special thanks to our event sponsors: Jack London Square, New Belgium Beer, Bay Area Bikes, and many other great supporting businesses, and a super-special thank you and recognition to Michael Stengl, who organized the biggest bike festival in the East Bay ever!
Pedalfest is a festival for the recreational rider and the seasoned cyclist, as well as the casual observer, showcasing what makes cycling such an popular activity for individuals, groups and families.
We have been working for months, in partnership with Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, Jack London Square and Michael Stangl of East Bay Bike Party to bring you an awesome bike event at Jack London Square this October. PedalFest, sponsored by New Belgium Brewing, Jack London Square and others, will be all about getting people on their bikes, allowing them to experience firsthand the benefits of everyday riding.
PedalFest will be a great place to join or renew as a member of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition. In addition to being entered to win a PUBLIC Bike that will be raffled off at the end of the day, the first 200 people to join or renew on the day of PedalFest will receive a free 2012 Chinook Book with a special deal from Wheels of Justice for $50 off your next service at the shop. The Chinook Book, a $20 retail value, has $3,000 worth of great coupons across the East Bay. Let your friends know that PedalFest is the day to join the EBBC! A big thanks to Wheels of Justice for sponsoring this great membership premium.

Enjoy a pedal-powered sound stage, folding bike races, bicycle trial demos, bike safety programs, bike pedal rides, bicycle rodeo, bike parade, food vendors, live music, and a New Belgium beer garden are just some of the events scheduled for the celebration!
We can’t wait to see you there! Come out and volunteer to help with our valet bike parking, outreach, pouring beer, and helping out with our activities, or just come enjoy the festival and raise a (beer) glass to a great event celebrating our rich and diverse bike culture here in the East Bay.
All proceeds from the New Belgium beer gardens go to benefit the bicycle advocacy work of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland.
Sign up here to volunteer for bike valet and outreach at this event!
