Everything you have ever heard about bicycling in Italy is true. The weather, terrain, roads, and cities are all perfectly suited for bike touring.

Hello, does anyone out there know of any reasonably priced hotels in Rome where I can stay for a few nights and that will store a bike travel case for a couple of weeks while I'm on the road? I haven't been able to find any that will. Thanks, DD
Eric, it seems as if you already took part of my trip. I am planning a ride south from Rome along the Appian way, cut over to the coast, and then along the coast to Salerno. Get on the train from Salerno to Florence, then ride back to Rome. Does this sound doable? And can you ride on the autostrada? What are the helmet laws?
Thanks, Eric in Cocoa Beach
Sounds like a nice trip. The Autostrada is off-limits for bikes, but you probably don't want to bike there anyway. There are always good parallel routes.
Italy does not have helmet laws for bikes, and cyclists you see there probably won't be wearing helmets.
