East Bay Bike Commuter of 2007 Awards

[G2:441 size=200 class=left] Congratulations to Lisa Lestishock, Bike Commuter of the Year for Alameda County (photo at left), and Robert Haas, Bike Commuter of the Year for Contra Costa County. We also note that the Bike Commuter of the Year for San Mateo County is Craig Horak of Burlingame, who pedals 50 miles a day round trip from Burlingame to his job in Emeryville. Go to www.511.org to read about other role (roll?) models in the Bay Area.

ALAMEDA COUNTY
The 2007 Bike Commuter of the Year for Alameda County is Lisa Lestishock of Oakland. Lisa, a pediatric nurse practitioner, averages 30 miles a day during her bike commute. She is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and her passion for humanity is apparent in everything she does. She is currently training for the AIDS/Lifecycle and plans to pedal the 7day, 545 mile ride on a fixed gear bike! Lisa’s friend on the Oakland Yellowjackets, Alfonso Estrada says, “with panache, Lisa truly embraces an all-around bike lifestyle – gaining from the fitness, environmental, economic and social benefits, and she continually entices others to do the same. I believe Lisa is a model Bay Area bike commuter and she is well-deserving of the Bike Commuter of the Year award for Alameda County.”

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
The 2007 Bike Commuter of the Year for Contra Costa County is Robert Haas of Moraga. Robert has been a regular bike commuter for nineteen years. Five days a week, rain or shine, Robert pedals to and from BART on both ends of his commute. He employs bike lockers at both the Orinda and El Cerrito BART stations which he uses to store his bike when he’s on the train. Robert is known in the bicycling community as a personable, out-going individual with a commitment to preserving the environment. Robert definitely pedals what he preaches!
